RCNME Creates WAVES at Pugad Lawin High School & Toro Hills Elementary School

The Rotary Club of New Manila East (RCNME), in collaboration with Manila Water Foundation and Procter & Gamble, recently launched the WAVES (Water Access and Vitality for Educators and Students) project, making significant strides in promoting hygiene and sanitation in local schools. The project was implemented at Pugad Lawin High School, where RCNME lead by Club President Karlo Benjamin Nisce and Director Jan Cabugawan, donated a portable handwashing device to improve students’ access to proper hygiene facilities. This initiative aims to address the ongoing need for improved sanitation in schools by providing practical solutions that can be easily integrated into daily routines. To ensure the effectiveness of the donation and to complete the project, RCNME conducted an educational session with students lead by Executive Secretary Denmark Macalindong, focusing on the importance of regular handwashing and its role in preventing the spread of communicable diseases. The session was designed to reinforce the habit of proper handwashing, a simple yet effective measure in maintaining health and preventing the spread of communicable disease.

Procter & Gamble supported the initiative by providing Safeguard soaps, ensuring that students had the necessary supplies to apply what they learned during the session. This partnership highlights the importance of collaboration between organizations in delivering impactful community projects.

In addition to the activities at Pugad Lawin High School, RCNME extended the WAVES project to Toro Hills Elementary School. The club donated copies of the handwashing storybook “May Tubig na sina Tinay!” to the school’s students during the Brigada Eskwela held at the school through Community Service Director Dave Buenviaje and Public Image Director Jian Anisco. This educational resource aims to teach young children about the importance of hygiene through an engaging and accessible format.

The WAVES project is a prime example of how targeted initiatives can address specific community needs. By focusing on hygiene education and providing essential tools, RCNME, in partnership with Manila Water Foundation and Procter & Gamble, is helping to create healthier learning environments for students. This project underscores the ongoing commitment of RCNME to community service and its role in fostering long-term improvements in public health through practical, collaborative efforts.
